About Charlie

My name is Charles, but everyone calls me Charlie. I started playing violin on my fourth birthday and love it.

I love making music with my violin and never want to give it up. I really liked playing at Disneyland in November and want to play there again next year. My grandma and I played all of the holiday songs together on Christmas for my family. My grandma played the harmony, but I like learning harmony parts. My grandma let me play Jingle Bells on the stage at Walt Disney Concert Hall in between concerts in December. It was fun. I want to be in an orchestra when I grow up.

I played in my school’s talent show. My act was one of 24 chosen from 48 acts. I played duets on the violin.

I passed my Certificate of Merit, level 1.

My great grandmother (Grammy) passed away in January. I played “Ode to Joy” at her memorial service. I will never stop playing the violin because it always reminds me of Grammy, and she always loved me playing the violin.

I take my violin to school all the time to play for my classmates. We had a field trip to the farm last month so I took the violin to school to play “Happy Farmer” for everyone.

Question of the Month

What are your most creative and successful practice strategies?

My most creative and successful practice strategy is to make a game out of it. If I get it right, I get a point. If I get it wrong, the person practicing with me gets a point. I usually win!

Favorite Songs to Play

My favorite piece is Gavotte. I will perform “Bourree” by Handel at my recital in May. My favorite part of “Bourree” reminds me of a roller coaster. I am currently working on “Witches’ Dance” by Paganini.

Favorite Foods and TV Shows

My favorite foods are quesadillas and I love to watch Full house on TV. My favorite movie is Star Wars.
